Located in the heart of the historic city of Bath, close to the Theatre Royal, The Oven is bang on trend with its rustic and industrial style interior. Although situated in an area packed with Italian restaurants, this pizzeria is already fast establishing a stellar reputation, thanks to its wood-fired, artisan pizza. The huge oven bakes pizzas at 500 degrees so they are perfectly cooked in no more than 90 seconds.
We visited on opening night and the service was efficient and attentive. After browsing the impressive menu, we chose a fresh tomato, mozzarella and avocado salad, followed with the creamy goat’s cheese and caramelised onion pizza, liberally sprinkled with pine nuts. My partner opted for tiger prawns to start and the flavoursome chorizo and mozzarella pizza for mains. Thanks to the woodfiring process, the dough is infused with a smokiness that really makes these pizzas something special; they were some of the best we’ve ever tasted. We brought our meal to a sweet finale by sharing the indulgent Nutella and mascarpone pizza.
When the weather warms up, I suggest pulling up a pew outside to relax with your pizza and perhaps a Bristol-brewed milk stout. The Oven may be a newbie to the Bath foodie scene but it’s a gem truly worth the visit.
