Situated across the road from the Theatre Royal in Sawclose, Gascoyne Place has been serving up the best in modern British food for more than a decade, welcoming everyone from pre-theatre diners and ladies who lunch to late-night drinkers. They boast one of the finest wine lists in the South West as well as a good selection of local ale, cider and specialist beer.
The restaurant comprises five distinct dining areas arranged over three floors, and offers lunch, dinner and pre-theatre menus based on seasonal, locally sourced produce. The spring menu features dishes such as slow-roast lamb shoulder, pan-fried duck breast, and split pea fritters with coriander couscous, alongside popular staples including handmade burgers (beef, chicken or vegetarian) and beer-battered cod with triple-cooked chips. Drinkers are also well catered for – there are 100 wines with 35 available by the glass, a range of local craft ale from brewers such as Plain Ales, Arbor and Wiper & True, and an extensive cocktail list.
All the rooms are available for private hire and Gascoyne Place is a popular choice for functions ranging from business lunches and birthday dinners to weddings. On Sunday nights the downstairs lounge reverberates with the sound of live jazz, with regular slots given to popular local acts – booking is strongly recommended if you’d like to dine to the music.
