Location: 9 Kidmore End, Emmer Green, RG40 3AF Tel: 0845 241 2965 Open: Mon-Fri noon-2.30pm, 6pm-9pm; Sat noon-9.30pm; Sun noon-7pm With its striking outdoor heated patio, The White Horse is a welcoming and impressive pub and restaurant. A special senior citizen menu, large screen broadcasting sports, and regular live music all add to its variety and appeal. The restaurant menu consists of various pub meals such as jacket potatoes, steaks, burgers, baguettes, salads and an all-day breakfast. A warmly lit, modern interior creates an instantly welcoming and relaxed feel. Sitting in a designated non-smoking area, I ordered the chicken and bacon salad (£4.75) with a side order of garlic bread (£1.75). My friend chose the smothered chicken New Yorker, two chicken breasts layered with bacon, cheese and BBQ sauce, served with chips and onion rings. The presentation of the meals was excellent, as was their flavour. I was genuinely impressed with my healthy option, as it was delightfully filling, and my friend's verdict was equally positive. In fact, her meal looked so tempting that I was glad I managed to sneak a few mouthfuls. Although the main meals were enough to satisfy both of us, we still managed to finish with a dessert. We chose a strawberry ice cream sundae (£1.95), and apple pie with choice of cream, custard or ice cream and coated in toffee sauce (£2.25). The exemplary level of customer service at The White Horse struck me; staff are friendly and helpful, adding to the venue's respectability. Whether you wish to eat in the restaurant, lounge on one of the sofas, sit at the bar or watch the sports on one of the televisions, The White Horse offers faultless service, ample free parking, and great meals at reasonable prices in a relaxed setting.
