Situated in the leafy University conservation area of Reading, this popular restaurant has served generous helpings of authentic Thai cuisine for four years, under the expert direction of owner-propietor Miah, head chef Sumahi Poohongsoong, and her busy team of cooks.

Popular with many local regulars and the student population alike, Sizzling Wok has a stylish cocktail bar area with comfortable seating, where customers can relax with a drink from an extensive list of wines, spirits and beers (try Singha beer, imported direct from Pathumthani in Thailand), before moving to the spacious dining room, where the chefs can be seen in action through the open hatch to the kitchen.

Chief waiter Anwar Hossain is happy to guide diners through the menu, which has a range of mild, spicy and very hot dishes to suit all tastes, as well as the sumptuous Sizzling Wok specials. There really is something for everyone, from vegetarian starters such as deep-fried tofu with a range of spicy dips, steamed fish and seafood dishes with sweet and sour sauce, or meat and vegetable stir-fries. However, it is the fantastic selection of curries that really stands out. Lovers of hot chillies will enjoy the jungle curry, which has a rich sauce with freshly chopped herbs, and is a particular highlight. Choose from vegetable, chicken, beef or prawn, and team it up with fragrant steamed rice. A glass of Australian Shiraz Cabernet, from a wine list that strongly features New World favourites, will complement any of the curry dishes very well, with its smooth and fruity flavour.

Diners who prefer something milder can choose from dishes such as chicken in sweet and sour sauce with cashew nuts, pineapple and peppers, or sizzling beef with aromatic sticky rice; alternatively some dishes can be cooked mild to order.

The desserts menu offers a delectable array of Asian and Far Eastern delights. Indulge in a passion bowl (mango ice cream, passion fruit sauce and papaya) or ras malai, (creamy milk curd with pastachio nuts), with a liqueur coffee.

Sizzling Wok welcomes large parties to the function room, which seats up to 50, and is ideal for a special occasion. Or, if you prefer to pop in for a drink and to watch major football or rugby matches, there is a plasma TV screen in the bar. But with such tempting cooking on offer, why stop just for a drink? The aromas from Sizzling Wok's kitchen are bound to make you want to stay.
