Santa Fe, named after the city of the same name, serves modern New Mexican food in a stylish and relaxed setting. Situated in the midst of the Riverside complex in Reading's Oracle Centre, the mix of terracotta, red and golden colours give a genuine feel of the American south-west, and the non-smoking restaurant (smoking is permitted in the bar) makes for a clean eating ambience, great for families.

Open all day, Santa Fe serves both a complete lunch and dinner menu. During the day you can order a main meal or, for around £6, opt for lighter bites like sandwiches and wraps. In the evening you'll find a full menu that takes its inspiration from a plethora of South American, Spanish and Native American dishes, with some of the ingredients sourced from local, organic growers. My husband and I enjoyed the scrumptuous smoked wild mushroom crostini (£4.25) and chicken flautas (£4.50) to start, followed by vegetarian sweet corn and black bean enchiladas (£8.25) and the meaty Grande chilli con queso (£7.95) of steak with haloumi cheese. For a side dish we selected Santa Fe fries (£2.95) served with a soft mayonnaise dip peppered with Montezuma spices, and to finish, from the range of desserts we chose chocolate brownies and vanilla ice cream (£4.95), and fruit sorbet.

There is a good selection of New World wines, amazing cocktails (they truly are legendary) and ice-cold beers to go with your meal, and the friendly, highly trained staff are happy to help you make a decision.

Santa Fe clientele encompasses business people, couples and twenty-somethings, but the informal and relaxed air is particularly pleasant for family dining. The staff are warm and enthusiastic, and the experience as a whole represents excellent value.
