The present building dates back to 1550, although there has been a drinking establishment on this site for over 900 years and it is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. Although tied to Enterprise Inns, it has none of the traits of some of the more soulless corporate chains. The spacious and well-lit patio area is popular in summer, and for cooler nights, the gas heaters mean that eating alfresco can still be an enjoyable experience. With the bar open all day, the restaurant hopes to follow suit at Easter. There is a speciality menu with an excellent choice of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes, as well as a bar menu with sandwiches, jackets, light bites and traditional favourite meals. The restaurant is available for private hire and is popular for business meetings, wedding receptions and christenings. This charming traditional pub offers great food and a genuinely warm welcome.
