Location: High Street, Goring on Thames, RG8 9AW Tel: 0845 202 1748 Open: Mon-Sun noon-3pm, 6pm-10pm The Miller of Mansfield has recently undergone a major transformation. This fantastic hotel and restaurant has been completely refurbished with comfort and style as a priority. The hotel, an 18th century coaching inn, now offers a combination of modern and traditional features and maintains the high standards that one would expect from a hotel in the scenic Goring area. The hotel overlooks the beautiful village green, which is fifty yards from the River Thames and perfect for a summer stroll after a delightful meal, or before retiring to one of the eleven stylish and uniquley designed bedrooms. The pub area is warm and welcoming with deep colours, comfortable sofas and blazing fires, where one can enjoy a casual meal, or just sit comfortably reading a book and sipping a glass of chardonnay or pint of beer. The non-smoking venue serves modern British and European cuisine with exciting combinations of colour, texture and flavour. The main restaurant is a complete contrast to the lounge and bar area, with elegant, sophisticated and ultra modern décor. The fresh pale shades of the white linen and walls are complemented by elegant cutlery and orchids lovingly placed on each table. Special mention must be made to the chef's culinary expertise. The food was absolutely perfect - fresh, tasty and tender, the combination of flavours was superb. It is no wonder that the lucky locals who have discovered this gem treat themselves to the fine food on a weekly basis. Portions are elegantly sufficient, and the presentation complements the outstanding quality of the food. We decided on the home-cured gravadlax with mustard dressing, and the marinated Cornish mackerel with winter vegetables to start. Both dishes exceeded expectation and left us excitedly anticipating our main courses. After a suitable pause to sit back and drink in the atmosphere, the main event arrived at our table. We enjoyed the roasted rump of Cornish lamb, celeriac purée and balsamic jus and the fillet of Guernsey line-caught sea bass with fennel and pineapple confit. The blueberry panna cotta was our last delight, smooth and tasty, a superb end to a perfect meal. Service is friendly and efficient. For a succulent, fresh and exciting meal, in a newly transformed chic restaurant, I urge you to sample The Miller of Mansfield. The restaurant also caters for private functions.
