Having run Mezzaluna Italian Restaurant for over four years, their reputation for outstanding service and authentic Italian food has spread throughout the surrounding area and beyond. Chef Fabrizio is not only an expert in the kitchen but also the perfect host. Expect to see him circulating the restaurant, meeting and greeting customers with unmistakable Italian charm. With low beams, candlelight, a subtle colour scheme and plenty of flowing wine, you are bound to find yourself caught up in the infectious romantic ambience. Pizza, pasta, fish, chicken, salads and veal - choose whatever takes your fancy and Fabrizio will masterfully create a feast that satisfies the toughest customer. The Funghi alla Romana (pan-fried mushrooms with pancetta and sherry - £6.95), and Cozze Provinciale (mussels, tomato, chilli and garlic - £6.95) - just two of the many starters on offer - went down well with our bottle of pinot grigio, which was particularly good. The highly recommended Dover sole with lemon and wine sauce, and Fileto al Gorgonzola (fillet steak with gorgonzola) lived up to expectations and were followed by a couple of dreamy desserts; home-made tiramisu and a generous portion of profiteroles provided a stunning finale to a great meal. The Mezzaluna special lunchtime menu offers a pizza or pasta dish with salad for just £7.50; alternatively, go for the three-course lunch at £9.50. Mezzaluna also provides a take-away service for nights when cooking and going out seem like too much trouble. Good music, wonderful service and great food - what more could you want?
