The restaurant is tastefully designed and furnished with unusual silk wall hangings and tapestries from Pakistan. Specialising in cuisine from the North of India, the chef has come from the Sheraton in Dubai and was trained there by an award-winning chef - needless to say, the resulting menu is fascinating. My guest and I were overwhelmed by the food we were served as it provided a refreshing change to the typical fare served in Indian restaurants. While we were waiting we were served complementary poppadoms served with home-made chutneys. Guided by the owner as we perused the menu, we were very pleased with our resulting choices. To start I had tandoori zafrani quail (£5.95) - heavenly flavours and literally finger licking, and my partner sampled the masala crab cakes (£5.95), with which she was thrilled. For the main course I had the inspired haddock in Bengali curry (£8.50) with its subtle flavours and fresh ingredients. My partner had the nali ghost (£7.95) - lamb shanks in North Indian curry sauce with star anise. The rest of the menu looked just as tempting. The desserts were very good - my mango and coconut brûlée cheesecake finished off the meal perfectly. With the added bonus of many musical and themed evenings, I would highly recommend that Mango Tree for a great night out.
