Location: 55-59 Whitley Street, Reading, RG2 0EG Tel: 0845 202 1741 Open: Mon-Sun 11am-2.30pm, 5pm-11pm With its chic, modern exterior you will be pleasantly surprised by the traditional music and décor of the Kathmandu Kitchen. The menu offers gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian meals and has a wide and unusual variety of dishes, including the king prawn dry fry - king prawns in a richly-spiced tomato sauce topped with fresh cream and cashew nuts and sag aloo - a mixture of spinach, potatoes and vegetables, all incorporating a rich blend of colours and flavours. As well as a bountiful selection of wine, whisky, spirits, beers and soft drinks, there is also a large range of curries and chilli dishes for your mean meal, but you should definitely start with the Kathmandu Special Starter for two or four people, which is great for those who are unfamiliar with Indian cuisine. All of the dishes are made to order and the staff are both willing and able to select a dish for you according to your preferences, although I would strongly recommend the sizzling chicken shaslik or tender chicken tikka. The dessert menu also offers many innovative options to end your meal, including lychees, pineapple and fresh mango. However, the Kulfi - a traditional Indian ice cream - is both elegant and scrumptious, as is the thick, creamy coconut ice cream, presented in a coconut shell. The Kathmandu Kitchen caters for functions, home deliveries and offers a 15% discount for students. The Kathmandu Kitchen is ideal for both seasoned and novice diners.
