Location: 25 Station Road, Henley-on-Thames, RG9 1AT Tel: 0845 202 1740 Open: Tues-Sat noon-2.30pm, 7pm-9.30pm Website: www.imperialhotelhenley.com The Imperial Hotel has been a landmark in Henley for over 100 years and with a new management team and a new restaurant it is already gaining a great new reputation. The Imperial Restaurant has a wonderful, elegant atmosphere with a beautiful stain glass window and high ceilings. The menu has a great mix of traditional British dishes with a wonderful Mediterranean feel which gives the menu a fresh contemporary flavour. For our starters, we chose a warm tartlet filled with sunblushed tomatoes, goat's cheese and spinach (£6) and chicken liver and wild mushroom parfait (£7). My partner opted for lemon and garlic monkfish wrapped in Parma ham (£15) for a main, while I chose spinach-stuffed chicken breast with a pancetta risotto (£14). Both were freshly prepared and tasted great. Infact, the restaurant prides itself on using local ingredients - organic when possible. The Imperial restaurant provides a haven to escape the hustle and bustle to enjoy a beautiful meal. Although situated within a hotel, the atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing and is a great place to enjoy good food and wine at good value prices. A beautiful place full of character and history, this independently-run hotel offers a wonderful base from which to explore historic Henley-on-Thames.
