The menu offers diners a good selection of starters and more substantial main courses. To start, choices include the light smoked Scottish salmon served with a citrus salad and cracked pepper, and the puff pastry cheese and tomato tart made with peppers, shallots, Parma ham and mixed leaves. I went for the grilled goat's cheese and roasted beetroot and pear salad with a walnut oil dressing - a delicious combination of flavours. Main courses are just as tempting with a choice of fresh fish, meat and vegetarian options. After much deliberation I decided upon the roast rump of lamb with garlic new potatoes, French beans and a red wine-olive jus. The dish arrived beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked. My companion's grilled Danish gammon served with baked apple, hand-cut chipped potatoes and topped with a fried egg, was outstanding. The friendly and accommodating staff provide a warm welcome to all at Duke Street Restaurant and Bar.
