Location: 48-50 Peach Street, Wokingham, RG40 1XG Tel: 0845 202 1723 Open: Mon-Sun noon-2pm, 6pm-midnight Running high quality restaurants serving excellent Bangladeshi cuisine runs in the family at Baranda. While this restaurant has only been open for two years, the tricks of the trade were learnt in another local establishment run by the owner's father since the 1970s. Baranda is spacious and atmospheric (and quite large with just over 100 covers). Indian music and paintings add to the ambience. The waiters' smart uniforms and crisp white linen make you feel you are in for a treat. The menu is interesting, compared to the standard fare in many Indian restaurants. Everything we chose was delicately flavoured and very moreish. I haven't stopped telling friends about it since. To start I had lamb tikka (£3.95), my guest had jhinga garlic (skewered king prawns grilled in the tandoori). For mains I had king prawn rezala (£9.25) cooked in yoghurt and tomatoes - the sauce was delicious. My guest had chicken makhani, a creamy sauce with almond which sent her up to seventh heaven. Desserts are traditional Indian ice creams and the coffee we finished with was perfect. The restaurant has live music on a Friday. Why not really let your hair down at one of the popular tribute nights to Abba or the Beatles? Booking is recommended at weekends and a takeaway service is available.
